Will 2014 be the year of Renewables?

Renewable energy didn't have the best of years in 2013. Despite the Government simply suggesting it "hadn't got off to the way they planned", the first year of the Green Deal has been largely considered a failure by many renewable energy groups. A total of only 626 households have live Green Deal plans in place, with 1612 having made plans overall. A far cry from the 10,000 the Government had estimated.

However with plans to simplify the Government's flagship energy efficiency programme underway, many are hopeful that this will truly be the year the Green Deal gathers momentum and becomes a success. NAPIT in particularly have touted that 2014 will be "The Year of Renewables and Energy Efficiency".

Not only will it be (hopefully) benefitting from these new Green Deal changes, but the industry is also seeing a boost as Feed in Tariffs (FITs) are on the rise. According to recent figures, at the end of December 2013 just over 2.2 GW of installed capacity was confirmed on the FIT scheme, totaling 448,222 installations.

According to statistics from the DECC (Department of Energy & Climate Change)'s latest public attitudes survey, around 76% of people support the use of renewable energy in the UK. As well as the long lasting environmental benefit, monetary incentives such as FITs are likely to be a contributing factor for this overwhelming support.

Renewables will also see further improvement this year as the long-delayed domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) finally arrives in Spring. This is designed to drive uptake of renewable heat technologies in homes across Great Britain to cut carbon, help meet renewables targets and save householders money on their bills

So what does this have to do with you? Well, the Electrician Academy offer a wide range of renewable energy installation courses - all of which will be able to benefit from the incentives already (or about to come) in play. With homeowners now more likely to take up renewable energy sources than ever, installers will want to be fully trained so that not only can they take advantage of this work about to line up, but can also beat off the competition and earn a reputation as the man for the job.

Our courses include solar thermal hot water, underfloor heating, ground & air source heat pumps and more. You'll be able to learn from the best and become fully qualified in no time at all! Just call 01732 869915 for more details.

If 2014 really is going to be the year of renewables - make sure you're there to take advantage of it!
