Competent Person Electrical Register Coming

Following a report published early last week by the Select Committee into Buildings Regulations Certification, it has been announced that a long-anticipated single electricians' register will be launching at the end of this month. This comes following a recommendation to produce a single point of reference so that consumers can find a qualified and registered electrician to carry out work in their homes.

Registered Competent Person Electrical is due to go live on the 30th June with an official launch event following on the 2nd July, however at this stage is not mandatory. All existing full scope Part P electricians in England and Wales will be added automatically and then encouraged to use the mark in their advertising from 30th June onwards.

The register has been welcomed by both NICEIC and ELECSA (both of whom are part of the Certsure brand), who warned back in March that "an industry sense check was required". Executive officer for Certsure Emma Clancy said: "The new website - - will become the one stop shop for consumers looking to hire an electrician to carry out work in their home.

"With the support of all scheme operators and DCLG, and with the charity Electrical Safety First spearheading a targeted consumer marketing campaign, levels of consumer awareness will rise significantly."

A new logo has also been designed to make the register easily identifiable for consumers. They are the key focus, and the mark aims to make finding a qualified and registered electrician easier to find than ever before.
